You should seek treatment if you’re experiencing:

You’ve got a loose tooth. This is not usual for adults and is a cause for concern.

Your toothache is severe. If the pain continues to distract you or keep you from your day-to-day activities, it’s time to come see us.

Your gums ache and are bleeding. Blood around your teeth and gums could be a sign of an infection in the gums or gingivitis. Chronic pain in your gums could be a symptom of an underlying gum disease.

A swollen jaw could indicate a salivary gland infection.

A dental abscess can cause intense pain and discomfort. An abscess has its start in an untreated cavity or a trauma.

If your teeth have gone numb, it could mean that an infection has spread to the root of your teeth.

A pronounced metallic taste in your mouth could indicate that an old filling has broken or come loose.

What injuries require emergency dental care?

  • Severely cracked teeth
  • Broken teeth
  • Knocked out teeth
  • Teeth pushed out of position
  • Severe tooth pain—if it hurts, it’s an emergency
  • Lost fillings or crowns

What do I do if a tooth gets knocked out?

  • Call M Dental immediately for an emergency appointment.
  • Gently handle tooth by the crown, not the root.
  • Rinse the tooth with water to remove dirt.
  • Either place the clean tooth in saliva or milk, or hold the clean tooth in the socket. It’s important to make sure the tooth doesn’t dry out.

What do I do if a tooth gets pushed out of position?

  • Call M Dental for an emergency appointment.
  • GENTLY try to push the tooth back into position.
  • Bite down gently to keep the tooth from moving.

What do I do if I fracture a tooth?

  • Call M Dental for an emergency appointment.
  • Rinse your mouth with warm water.
  • Take ibuprofen if pain requires.
  • Use ice or a cold press to reduce swelling.

The bottom line: if it seems serious, it probably is. If it hurts, make an emergency appointment. We will make sure that you and your teeth are taken care of. We take the stigma off of the dentist! Call M Dental today to schedule an appointment with us!
